Artist Journey: Ebony Glenn

08 February 2019

Ebony Glenn joined Bright in 2016, and since then, her star has risen to incredible heights. Most notably, her illustrations appeared in Mommy’s Khimar, which published in April 2018 with Simon & Schuster, and in nonfiction picture book Brave Ballerina, which just published last month in January 2019 with Henry Holt. She recently completed an artist’s residency at AIR Serenbe, which gave her the time and space to focus on artwork for another upcoming book. We talked to Ebony about the exciting year that she has had and what she has coming up next.

Behind the Book: THE VAST WONDER OF THE WORLD, Illustrated by Luisa Uribe

06 December 2018

Bright artist Luisa Uribe is at the beginning of her career, but it’s safe to say that she is already making quite a mark. Her illustrations for The Vast Wonder of the World, a picture book biography of biologist Ernest Everett Just, won the Dilys Evans Founders Award at the Society of Illustrators’ Original Art show 2018. Named after The Original Art founder, this prestigious award celebrates the most promising new talent in children’s book illustration and is selected by a jury of established luminaries in the world of children’s publishing.

Bright US at the SOI Original Art 2018

12 November 2018

Each November, the best and brightest (no pun intended) in children’s publishing gather at the Society of Illustrators on Manhattan’s Upper East Side to celebrate their shared passion for picture book illustration. The SOI’s Original Art show is unique in its presentation of picture book art in a gallery setting; the process of illlustrating a book is often a very solitary one for artists, making it all the more exciting to gather, socialize, and admire the work on the walls as a community.
