“Matt Hunt’s primary-coloured drawings teem with multiple lifeforms… this debut is more than a book; it’s an invitation to have fun – a playful provocation.” - taken from a review of How to count to one (and don’t even think about bigger numbers!), illustrated by Matt Hunt, written by Caspar Salmon, published by Nosy Crow.

Taken from a review of ‘Cat, Rat, Hat’, illustrated by Matt Hunt, written by Em Lynas and published by Candlewick Press from Kirkus Reviews.
“A happy cat has a yellow mat where it likes to play, rest, and dream about fish. The cat is content until it sees a rat wearing an enormous pink hat—and wants it. The cat chases the rat and, ultimately, takes the hat. But the rat is not willing to give up so easily. What ensues is a true game of cat and mouse, with the rat and the cat chasing each other and vying for ownership of the precious, gigantic pink hat. Things get even more complicated when the dueling pair is noticed by a bat—who happens to be wearing a fancy cravat. Then the bat decides that it, too, wants the hat, and the cat and the rat lose interest in the hat and instead decide that they want the bat’s fancy cravat. The chase is on as each animal tries to get a hold of the item of clothing it desires, all the while trying to outsmart its peers. This charming rhyming book’s ridiculously humorous premise will appeal to children and adults alike. The colorful pictures are delightfully absurd and enhanced by clever textual design. (Most notably, when the bat speaks, its words appear upside down.) Lynas turns the primer-level language into a deliciously clever, rhythmic text; paired with the vibrant illustrations it makes for an ideal read-aloud.”

When the Statue of Liberty decides to leave her pedestal and travel around the country, her absence may result in the cancellation of the Fourth of July.
America’s symbol for freedom has stood still for over 100 years and is feeling the strain: “My neck is stiff. My arms are aching. I’ve had a cramp in my leg for a decade at least.” Moreover, she’s tired of the unchanging view. On a whim and with some encouragement from pigeon friend Moe, Lady Liberty leaves her tablet and torch behind to visit many of America’s landmarks, keeping Moe posted on her travels with postcards. Like a green, robed Paul Bunyan looming large across the page, the smiling statue travels America, from the sandy shores of New Jersey and Cape Cod, then west to St. Louis’ Gateway Arch and wheat fields in Kansas, and on to the Rocky Mountains and Golden Gate Bridge. Children are given a view of each stop with expansive scenes that maximize the absurdity of the situation (as when she photo-bombs Mount Rushmore). New Yorkers and tourists are greatly relieved when Lady Liberty returns from the Florida Keys just in time for the Fourth of July. A postscript provides historical information on the statue’s creation and installation, but it’s too bad there is no final quick review of each of the landmarks presented.
An amusing commemoration.” — Kirkus Review for ‘Lady Liberty’s Holiday’ by Jen Arena, illustrated by Matt Hunt.
