Agent Adventure: Márcia in Germany

Earlier this month, Bright Children’s Agent Márcia Sousa set off on a whirlwind tour of Germany, meeting with some of the country’s leading children’s publishers.

Visiting Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Ravensburg and Bamberg, Márcia’s journey offered a broad view of Germany’s uniquely decentralised publishing landscape.

“Coming from London, where the industry is so focused in one place, it was a surprise and a treat to see just how spread out and diverse the German publishing scene is,” she shared.

During her trip, Márcia met with fantastic teams from Carlsen, Harper Collins, Oetinger, Ravensburger, Karibu, Magellan and arsEdition. She also caught up over coffee with Bright artist Anita Schmidt.

The visit was a chance to pitch exciting original concepts, present new artists and deepen relationships with German publishers.

“It’s a very mature and passionate market,” Márcia noted. “I’ve learnt so much, and I’m really excited about the possibilities ahead.”

Maricia’s portfolio was very well received during meetings, with the many artists’ work standing out and making a strong impression.

With plenty more to explore, Márcia is already looking forward to her next trip. “There’s so much happening in German publishing, it’s inspiring!”
