Robert has been drawing as long as he can remember, and it’s a really important part of his life. He spent his childhood devouring the Beano and Dandy, Asterix and Richard Scarry, and got the bug for drawing.
Having studied English Literature, and taught in primary schools, Robert has now returned full-time to his love of drawing. He works in a mixture of traditional and digital media, and aims to create bold, fun illustrations that have the heart and the wonkiness of a real human illustrator.
He is drawn to any project where he can show the heart of a character, whether that’s in board books, picture books or chapter books. He is always looking for new ways to bring stories to life on the page.
His books have been translated into twenty languages, and his debut, Fergal is Fuming!, was shortlisted for the Waterstones Children’s Book Award.
As well as writing and illustrating, Robert enjoys running workshops, talks and writing sessions. He thinks that kids have got a pretty good idea of how things ought to be, and adults have a lot to learn from them. When he’s not working, he can be found out enjoying nature, or sketching in a cafe.
