Nila Wood is a British‑Indian illustrator and designer based in the UK. She could draw before she could write, often sketching out answers at school long before she had the words to explain them. That early visual curiosity has grown into a career built on character, warmth, and storytelling.
Nila holds a degree in Animation Production and completed an animation residency at CalArts, both of which deepened her passion for visual storytelling. She spent ten years working in design for animation, honing her skills in character design and world-building. Now, she’s expanding into illustration to explore new ways of telling stories and connecting with audiences.
She works in a blend of traditional and digital media, layering watercolour, coloured pencils, and textured brushwork to create images that feel handcrafted and full of life. Her inspiration comes from small, everyday details; a glance, a gesture, the rhythm of family life - which she translates into playful, emotive work for children’s media.
She brings a British‑Indian perspective to her creative process, shaped by a deep love of narrative and connection. Outside the studio, she’s happily married and a proud parent to two wonderfully imaginative children, who often lend their own ideas (and critiques!) to her work.
