Bank Street's Best Books of the Year

last updated 12 April 2019

Bank Street College of Education’s Children’s Book Committee strives to guide librarians, educators, parents, grandparents, and other interested adults to the best books for children published each year. The list includes more then 600 titles chosen by reviewers for literary quality and excellence of presentation as well as the potential emotional impact of the books on young readers. Other criteria include credibility of characterization and plot, authenticity of time and place, age suitability, positive treatment of ethnic and religious differences, and the absence of stereotypes.

This year, three Bright titles made this prestigious list:

title

Two Problems for Sophia by Jim Averbeck and Illustrated by Bright Artist Yasmeen Ismail | Published by Margaret K. McElderry Books

title

Mrs. Claus Takes the Reins by Sue Fliess and Illustrated by Bright Artist Mark Chambers | Published by Two Lions/Amazon

title

Mermaid School by Joanne Stewart Wetzel and Illustrated by Bright Artist Julianna Swaney | Published by Knopf Books for Young Readers

Congratulations to all who made the list this year, and thank you to Bank Street College and the Children’s Book Committee.
