Steffi Walthall | Editorial Projects

Steffi Walthall is an illustrator and character designer from Virginia USA who is inspired by mythology, history, film and science fiction. Her speciality is in creating diverse characters and unique stories through her illustration. Recently, she has been working on a number of exciting editorial projects for clients such as The New Yorker, Sojourners Magazine, and The New York Times.
In recent months, Steffi has illustrated multiple pieces for The New Yorker. Her illustrations can be found accompanying the review Reimagining August Wilson’s “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” on the Small Screen by Hilton Als.
Steffi’s second piece for The New Yorker is an atmospheric piece for their Current Cinema article Economic Ruthlessness On The Open Road In “NomadLand” by Anthony Lane.
In January this year, Steffi illustrated the cover of Sojourners Magazine, and their feature “Finding Our Way in a Post-Trump America”, a selection of short reflections from historians, theologians, artists and activists on navigating post-Trump America.
Her style is also popular for publishing. “You Can Go Your Own Way” by Eric Smith, published by Harlequin Trade Publishing, will be out in November, featuring Steffi’s whimsical cover art.
