Emma Oldham

Emma Oldham (she/her) is an award-winning conservation biologist and published children’s author based in Newark-on-Trent, England.

Her passion for wildlife and storytelling took root in childhood, never far from a notepad or a rescued creature. This early curiosity has blossomed into a lifelong mission: exploring how stories and poetry illuminate our relationship with the natural world.

With over a decade of experience in environmental journalism and children’s publishing, Emma has edited nature magazines and led communications for some of the UK’s largest wildlife charities. Her work has received national recognition, including the 2023 Women of the Future Award, the 2024 Novi Third Sector Leader for nature writing, and a place on the 2024 ENDS Power List.

Emma currently works with the Connected Conservation Foundation, leveraging technology—from IoT networks to satellites—to address urgent biodiversity challenges. She is also pursuing an MA in Creative Writing at the University of Lincoln.

Her writing has recently been shortlisted for the Fiction category of the 2025 Queen Mary Wasafiri New Writing Prize and the 2025 Oxford Flash Fiction awards, and longlisted for the 2025 Clarissa Dalloway Prize for Short Prose.
