Lemady Rochard

Lemady is originally from the Peak District, England, but now lives in the foothills of the alps in Switzerland. Her illustrations are made through a mixed-media approach, predominantly digital but often incorporating hand-made textures from watercolour, ink and pastels. Her artwork is distinctive for its loose, lively line, emotion, intimacy and atmosphere. Lemady is particularly interested in portraying human stories and relationships. Having worked with clients such as Cricket Magazine Lemady is used to managing and interpreting briefs. Lemady was shortlisted in 2023 for both the World Illustration Awards (Children`s Publishing) and for the Northern Illustration Prize.

Lemady is particularly inspired by family life, old things and the beautiful mountains around her in Switzerland. The changing colours, fractal patterns and textures of the landscape continually influence her work. As a sun chaser, the way the weather affects light, colour and mood feeds into her pictures.

Lemady is also a Teacher and Community Artist. She loves children`s books and set up the Storycraft Studio, where she has read stories and made art projects with hundreds of children and parents. Lemady loves the immediate and vibrant nature of children’s art and she tries to capture this sense of playfulness in her own artwork.

Lemady loves travelling and taking her sketchbook to new places. Coming from the North of England she also enjoys drinking a lot of tea … preferably made in a pretty teapot!
