Flavia Sorrentino for Disney+
last updated 15 December 2020
Bright artist Flavia Sorrentino was recently commissioned by MEOKCA to create this fantastic poster for Disney+. We caught up with Flavia to find out what is was like working on a poster for The Mandelorian Season 2, and what advice she has for aspiring illustrators.
What did you enjoy most about working on this project?
I love cinema and TV, so when Rebecca Thompson from Meokca asked me to be part of this job I was super happy. I liked being able to express my point of view about The Mandalorian’s story.
Can you tell us a bit about your process and how you go about designing a poster?
I always start by writing down all my feelings and considerations regarding the story and the characters. After I have found the keywords that fit the brief, I start making sketches that can help me develop my idea. Then I position the elements, also keeping in mind the lettering part of the poster, like the film title - I love to think of the whole composition. When I feel that a composition works more than another I start to think of colors and technique. It’s so important to me because these can help me to communicate the message that I want to express.
Do you have a favourite Star Wars character?
My favourite Star Wars character is Chewbacca, because he is a loyal friend and courageous, but at the same time is someone who you don’t want to mess with.
What are your goals in the world of illustration?
By character I am a person who loves to explore new fields, but my first love always remains the book covers and the posters, because in these I can combine the two things that I love the most, drawing and lettering. So I would say that I would like to continue on this way. I also love creating patterns, it’s great fun to draw even without a reference text.
