Perdu is the debut author-illustrated picture book by Richard Jones — illustrator of the international bestseller The Snow Lion. Published by Simon & Schuster Children’s UK this spring, it is a poignant tale about a little lost dog alone in the city, beautifully brought to life in Richard’s stunning, heartfelt artwork. The Guardian celebrated it by describing how its ‘delicate pathos and warmth imbue it with a salutary sense of reassurance’.

We are delighted to share the shortlisted titles for The Alligator’s Mouth Award 2020 – a prize created by Bright and The Alligator’s Mouth bookshop to celebrate highly-illustrated children’s fiction. This year’s line-up of books for 6 to 8-year-olds features friendship, fantasy, diversity and plenty of humour.

To celebrate reaching 50,000 followers on our Instagram, we’ve asked Bright author-illustrator Nicola O’Byrne to host a special ‘Draw This In Your Style’ competition! The competition will be running on the Bright Agency UK instagram, and Nicola is challenging artists to draw her famous grumpy crocodile from her Waterstones Children’s Book Prize Winning book ‘Open Very Carefully’. The winner of the competition will get a free online portfolio review with one of our fabulous Bright agents.

Spring has sprung, and we’re looking forward to the sunnier times ahead. The next three months are full of some wonderful new books from Bright’s authors and illustrators. There’s a brilliant selection of titles from bestselling author illustrators in our picture book offering; Jarvis’s Follow Me, Flo! and Nicola O’Byrne’s Bad Cat! are out in April; and Sue Hendra and Paul Linnet’s No-Bot returns in June. We’re also very excited to share the debut author-illustrated titles from Richard Jones and Jo Fernihough.

Jo Fernihough’s debut author illustrated picture book, The Crow and the Peacock, is a modern fable about Crow’s quest to find the happiest bird in the world. Bold and colourful, Jo’s book is bursting with beautiful illustrations using a combination of ink, paint, collage and digital media. The Crow and the Peacock, published by Oxford University Press, is out on 2nd April 2020.

This month, we’re proud to turn the spotlight on star agents James Burns and Lucie Luddington as they celebrate their ten year Bright-Anniversary. James and Lucie have embodied the spirit of Bright since the very beginning and have been instrumental forces in growing the agency into what it is today. We’re beyond proud to call them our own as they commemorate this major milestone.

Bright is once again partnering with The Alligator’s Mouth children’s bookshop to celebrate the best books for 6-8 year olds. Ten books have been longlisted for The Alligator’s Mouth Award 2020, the second year in which it will recognise both authors and illustrators of highly illustrated children’s fiction. Themes of friendship, bravery and adventure all feature prominently in the line-up of books.
