Sophia Soliman

Sophia Soliman is a Portuguese-Egyptian illustrator, based between Cairo and Lisbon, where the textures, colors, and layered histories of both parts of her world quietly find their way into her work. She has been drawing for as long as she can remember, but her path into illustration became clear through her love of storytelling—especially stories that help children see the world, and themselves, a little differently.

Working primarily with watercolor and mixed media, Sophia enjoys the softness and unpredictability of traditional materials, often combining them with digital refinement to create warm, expressive imagery. She is particularly drawn to rich cultural themes, heritage, and character-driven narratives. Research plays an important role in her process; she loves diving into the details of a place or period and translating them into visual worlds that feel authentic and inviting.

Sophia has illustrated multiple children’s books and collaborated with international authors and publishers. Alongside her studio practice, she also leads creative workshops worldwide, encouraging young artists to experiment, take risks, and develop their own visual voices.
