Mamoru Yamamoto is a professional Japanese picture book author and illustrator whose work bridges the gap between nostalgic charm and modern design. A graduate of Tokyo’s prestigious Kuwasawa Design School, his artistic foundation is deeply rooted in the Bauhaus philosophy, which he seamlessly integrates with his primary inspiration: the vibrant aesthetic of 1960s and 70s Japanese animation. This unique fusion results in a sophisticated style that blends rich, nostalgic textures with a contemporary graphic sensibility.

Throughout his distinguished career, Mamoru has published seven picture books and has been selected twice for the prestigious Bologna Illustrators Exhibition. His ability to create endearing characters that resonate across cultures has led to successful international collaborations, including projects with the Australian fashion brand Gorman and the renowned French toy company Djeco. He is particularly known for his dedication to nurturing original character IPs that bring joy to children and families worldwide.

Based in Yokohama, Japan, Mamoru works with a meticulous approach, often layering hand-drawn elements with digital precision to achieve a warm yet polished finish. He is a creator who values the longevity of a story, aiming to build creative universes that endure for generations. When he is not in his studio, he enjoys the quiet inspiration of his surroundings, always seeking new ways to connect with a global audience through his timeless storytelling.
