Mia Underwood is a British-Danish artist, illustrator, designer, and published author based in the East Sussex countryside. Following in her father’s footsteps, she knew from an early age she was destined to be an artist, and she has always loved drawing scenes filled with magic and wonder. Childhood trips to Denmark, especially visits to Tivoli, taught her the importance of creating from the heart, while becoming a mother to two daughters deepened her appreciation for storytelling and handmade craft.
She studied at the London College of Communication and the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, and has spent more than 20 years collaborating with clients including Usborne Books, Starbucks, Red Bull, the English National Opera, and The Wildlife Trust. Her projects span children’s picture books, jigsaws, large-scale stage props, and more, drawing on her skills in traditional drawing and painting, digital illustration, repeat patterns, maps, layouts, custom fonts, and writing her own stories.
Inspired daily by her woodland surroundings, three mischievous cats, seven chickens, and a friendly crow who visits daily. Mia brings imaginative characters to life with a touch of magic, and an underlying message to appreciate and spend time in nature.
