Tika and Tata: How Do Two People Make One Illustration?

Tika and Tata are sisters and artistic collaborators originally from Georgia. We wondered how two people create one illustration so seamlessly, so they agreed to give us some insights into their process.


Tika: Since we do not live together anymore, our workspaces are in two different locations, but I’m visiting Tata for the summer holidays and we will work together in person then.

Usually, we do not have any specific role while we work; it always depends on the piece. We start brainstorming about the sketches together. Sometimes I’m doing the coloring and last details are added by Tata, or it is the other way around.

Our process is as follows:

After brainstorming, we start doing rough sketches on the paper with pencil. We find the best possible composition and draw in detail.

After that, we scan the drawing, and continue working in Photoshop with a Wacom tablet.
We find the digital brushes best suited for the style we have in mind. After that, we figure out the color pallette.


We start to apply color and details.


We enjoy vivid color combinations, especially when we are using paints.


We create our illustrations using both traditional media, such as pencils, gouache, and watercolor, and digital methods.

Every little thing in a daily life can be inspiring for us.
