Bright US at the SOI Original Art 2018

All of the Bright artists’ picture books featured at the show.
Each November, the best and brightest (no pun intended) in children’s publishing gather at the Society of Illustrators on Manhattan’s Upper East Side to celebrate their shared passion for picture book illustration. The SOI’s Original Art show is unique in its presentation of picture book art in a gallery setting; the process of illlustrating a book is often a very solitary one for artists, making it all the more exciting to gather, socialize, and admire the work on the walls as a community.

This year was a particularly exciting one for Bright at the SOI. Nine of our artists were featured (a personal best), including Luisa Uribe, who was awarded the Dilys Evans Founders Award for The Vast Wonder of the World (Lerner Books). Named after The Original Art founder, this prestigious award celebrates the most promising new talent in children’s book illustration and is selected by a jury of established luminaries in the world of children’s publishing. Luisa and her husband traveled from Colombia to accept her prize, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have her there in person.
