2020 has been a year full of bumps and surprises. Our Bright Artists and Authors have been hard at work this year and we are thrilled with the array of fantastic awards and accolades they’ve received in recognition. To celebrate the diverse range of talent in our Bright family, we’ve rounded up some of the highlights below.

We are thrilled that Bright’s Yasmeen Ismail has won the 2020 World Illustration Award Professional Children’s Book Category with her picture book Would You Like a Banana?, published by Walker Books.

We are so excited that King Coo: The Curse of the Mummy’s Gold by Adam Stower has won The Alligator’s Mouth Award 2020. Run by Bright and The Alligator’s Mouth bookshop, the children’s book prize celebrates the best books for 6-8-year-olds.

We are delighted to share the shortlisted titles for The Alligator’s Mouth Award 2020 – a prize created by Bright and The Alligator’s Mouth bookshop to celebrate highly-illustrated children’s fiction. This year’s line-up of books for 6 to 8-year-olds features friendship, fantasy, diversity and plenty of humour.

Established over 40 years ago, the AOI’s World Illustration Awards are widely respected across the industry, offering a comprehensive insight into the ideas, trends and techniques that are at the forefront of illustration today.

Bright is once again partnering with The Alligator’s Mouth children’s bookshop to celebrate the best books for 6-8 year olds. Ten books have been longlisted for The Alligator’s Mouth Award 2020, the second year in which it will recognise both authors and illustrators of highly illustrated children’s fiction. Themes of friendship, bravery and adventure all feature prominently in the line-up of books.

At Bright, we know that trying to keep up with the calendar of industry awards can feel an impossible task at times. With so many longlist and shortlist announcements, announced seemingly out of the blue, and the application process varying from award to award, we wanted to find a way to simplify the who’s, what’s and when’s of all the major children’s publishing and illustration awards.

Last Thursday The Bright Emporium opened its doors to host the very first Alligator’s Mouth Award ceremony. After months of anticipation, it was a special moment to celebrate the five fantastic shortlisted titles, and the authors, illustrators and publishers behind the books.
