V&A Illustration Award: Best Illustrated Book 2017 for ‘Alan’s Big Scary Teeth’ by Jarvis, published by Walker Books.

“Illustrations in cheerful colors and a variety of shapes and sizes will appeal to children, and they will be delighted as they witness the family welcoming Scarlet’s new baby brother . . . and one more surprise. As the author states in her dedication, this book is “for anyone who has ever felt a little different,” and it will be readily enjoyed by youngsters.” - Booklist

“The book boasts fun, cartoonish, and colorful illustrations that follow the text and vividly express the emotions of the characters throughout the story. The story’s message that people’s differences can provide the basis of new friendships will be perceptible to readers. Making friends can be hard, but it is nevertheless possible, even if a person is different. Readers will like this short, humorous book that would also be an excellent choice for a read-aloud. Beginning readers may have trouble with some of the text. Teachers may want to purchase for the classroom library to help children become less self-conscious, or to touch on the topic of intolerance or discrimination. It would serve as a good addition to a confidence-boosting section in the library.” - School Library Connection

“The short, rhyming text has a bouncy, appealing tone, with four brief lines of text per page. Delightful mixed-media illustrations use a flattened perspective, simple shapes, and glowing, light-filled backgrounds for a fresh take on the tree-decorating tradition. The illustrations are all in double-page-spread format with compositions that will work well for reading to a group or with just one child in a lap. Pick this delightful story for a Christmas story time, for library collections, or for family reading around the Christmas tree.” — Kirkus Review for ‘Pick a Pine Tree by Patricia Toht, illustrated by Jarvis.

“A riotous jungle romp about a crocodile with an embarrassing secret. It’s great fun.’ — Fiona Noble for The Bookseller on ‘Alan’s Big Scary Teeth’ by Jarvis.

“Jarvis’s whimsical digital artwork shows the energetic penguins riding the rails of a Venetian gondola, waterskiing in Sydney, and bonding with their polar bear guide… The pleasures, quirks, and unexpected surprises of travel are evident” — Publishers Weekly for ‘Poles Apart’ by Jeanne Willis, illustrated by Jarvis.
