At Bright, we know that trying to keep up with the calendar of industry awards can feel an impossible task at times. With so many longlist and shortlist announcements, announced seemingly out of the blue, and the application process varying from award to award, we wanted to find a way to simplify the who’s, what’s and when’s of all the major children’s publishing and illustration awards.

The Harlem Renaissance was an artistic and social explosion of cultural pride that took place in Harlem, New York throughout the 1920s. Considered by many a rebirth of African American art, The Harlem Renaissance included some influential figures such as the poet Langston Hughes, the performer Josephine Baker and jazz musicians like Count Basie and Duke Ellington.

Bright’s Senior Licensing Agent, and newly-appointed director, Hannah Curtis, was honoured to be invited to join the small-but-select panel of judges to decide the award for SAA New Talent in Illustration Associate Prize at the prestigious New Designers Awards, taking place at London’s Business Design Centre this week.

Karl James Mountford is one of Bright’s most successful and instantly recognisable artists. We attend Spring Fair at Birmingham’s NEC every year, showcasing our artists to clients, both established and new. This year felt like a new beginning, with our new logo, new stand, and exciting new artists to show, along with those more established, who never fail to impress.

At Bright we work with all genres of illustration, and our Art Licensing division is a huge part of the company. The wonderful thing about working with illustrators is how versatile they can be in terms of design, allowing their work to cross between our two main genres — those being the greetings card industry and children’s picture book publishing.
