What a bumper year for awards 2018 has been! Bright artists have received an array of fantastic accolades and to celebrate the range of talent these awards recognise, we’ve rounded up some of the best highlights from our artists work this year.

We’re delighted that six brilliant Bright artists — Benji Davies, David Litchfield, Jarvis, Jenny Løvlie, Laura Hughes and Richard Jones — have been nominated for the Kate Greenaway Medal 2019. It is a huge honour for artists to be recognised by such a prestigious prize; it is one of the oldest children’s book awards in the UK, and also notably one that is dedicated to celebrating illustration in children’s publishing.

The Alligator’s Mouth Award will celebrate the best books published in the UK from the last year for readers aged 6-8, and champion authors and illustrators for highly illustrated children’s fiction.

We are delighted and immensely proud that Bright artist Laura Hughes has won the Oscar’s Book Prize 2018 alongside author John Dougherty with their original and witty picture book ‘There’s A Pig Up My Nose!’, published by Egmont.

Benji Davies is wonderfully intuitive when it comes to storytelling. His picture books broach subjects that at some point as adults we might be faced with — wondering how best to explain them to our children when they are small. LM

You only have to glance through David Litchfield’s own blog to see that this talented man owes his success, not only to the fact that he has beautiful ideas with artwork to match, but that his dedication to his audience, and the way he shares his gift means the legacy of his work will certainly stand the test of time along with greats like Maurice Sendak, and Judith Kerr.

The Association of Illustrators (AOI) was set up as the trade association for illustration to be a voice for illustrators, protecting their rights and interests. They campaign for the professional and ethical standards within the illustration industry with an aim to promote and improve the standing of illustration as a profession.
