Sebastiaan Van Doninck

Sebastiaan was born on a warm summer day in 1979 in the midst of a huge foster family of 12 and was raised in a tiny little village on the countryside of the Flemish part of Belgium. As a child he couldn’t stop drawing and knew exactly what he wanted to study; Art.

Sebastiaan now works as a freelance illustrator for publishers such as Lannoo, De Eenhoorn, Querido, Davidsfonds, Gottmer, Penguin Random House, Thames & Hudson, Bleu Apple books and Usborne publishing. He’s also active in the editorial field for newspapers such as De Morgen, De Standaard, Humo, Knack Weekend & the Süddeutsche Zeitung magazine.

He loves to work with mixed media, in a combination of digital and handmade techniques, and is always searching for new ways of working, to push the boundaries of his illustrations.

Sebastiaan also lectures illustration and character design at the Antwerp Sint Lucas College of Art & Design. A lot of his students are working as bright, successful illustrators (Anton Van Hertbruggen, Mattias De Leeuw, Sassafras De Bruyn).
