Rachel Allsop
Currently I live in a small village called Burton in Kendal in Cumbria. I like going on long walks and taking photographs of the dramatic scenery that can be seen around the lake district . Often I will use these images as a source of inspiration for future artworks. When I’m not illustrating I spend my time working at a specialist arts college for disabled teenagers.
I spent several of my early school years in Japan and I have now become fond of the simplicity of line and composition found within their traditional works of art, and I feel that this past influence can be seen within my work now. Having later studied Illustration in Cornwall I found myself also being inspired by the tranquillity of the local landscape and the unique light that can be seen within this region.
I enjoy creating pieces which capture atmospheric light changes and the beautiful textures that can be seen within the natural world. My work is not always truly representational, and sometimes I feel that it is more interesting to capture a particular mood as a splash of water or pool of colour.
My paintings have been exhibited and sold as originals and prints in several galleries locally and in London.
