Clau Souza is a Brazilian illustrator based in Toronto, Canada and she loves to create fun characters to help children (and grown ups, why not?!) learn in a funnier way! She loves to add some weirdness, good-vibes, colours and a nice touch of humour in her characters, because she believes being weird is the new black and everybody need to embrace this! Clau is a vector lover and even trying different techniques, she decided to let go and do her thing!
She started working with illustration when she was 18 years old, when she got her first paid drawing for a caricature for a friend’s wedding. She expend all those $15 with a couple of yummy cheese breads and after that she didn’t stop (both drawing and the cheese bread).
During these years she has been working for a range of fields including advertising, editorial and children’s books with great Brazilian clients such as Lilica & Ripilica, Carinhoso, FIAT, Fundação Grupo O Boticário. Since she moved to Canada she worked with nice international clients like Mc’Cafe. Over the years, her work has got recognition in great art publications, such as Lürzer’s Archive, Zupi and Computer Arts.
Besides her work with drawing, she has a degree in Advertising, some great courses in Design and Character Design in schools like Lemon (Brazil) and Schoolism. And recently she started a pos-graduation program in Arts Education & Community Engagement at Centennial College, Canada.
